Thinking about summer

Ohhh it is still snowing in Iceland and I am getting quite sick of the snow and want the spring to arrive. Sometimes when the weather is extra cold i think back to the nice summer days of riding. One of my favorite memory is riding through the Húsafell area on our Tölt with glacier view tour.

The trail ride is beautiful and the view on those sunny days is extraordinary. On the way I see waterfalls, mountains and glaciers. This area is a true gem in iceland and definitely worth to check out even if your not on a horse.

The Waterfall we ride past is Hraunfossar and Barnafossar. Hraunfossar or lava-waterfall is the site of constant eruptions, the lava fields are known for their hidden caves. It is said that in the old times the waterfall was once home to bandits and trolls. The name Barnafossar means child-waterfall, the story behind the name is that there were two young boys who were climbing around a bridge that was connected by the waterfall, sadly they lost their balance and fell into the waterfall.

We also ride past a cave called Víðgemlir It is said to be the most famous cave in Iceland and is one of the biggest lava cave in Iceland. The Cave Víðgelmir is located in a lava field called Hallmundarhraun, which is the largest lava field in Borgarfjörður. The name Hallmundarhraun is named after a troll named Hallmundur. The Cave is a family owned and operated company founded in 2015.

The horses that we bring on the tour is all of our own horses so we know each one very well. No horse is the same and they all have different personalities. We like to ride with a hand horse since it's more the traditional Icelandic way. Most of the horses are a good hand horse and we will always pair up horses that know each other well. Iv'e been traveling on horses since i was 11 years old and most of the time i have a handhorse or even horses and i think it's really cool to be seen around with a couple of horses.

Besides riding on the tour i also enjoy the outdoor lunch. We always go the extra ''mile'' and prepare a proper lunch for our guest and the love it. We might have traditional Icelandic pick nick or even a bbq. If its raining we prepare our own little cozy restaurant in the horse trailer and i bet no other riding group has their lunch in a trailer. I think my favorite food on a horse riding tour is hot dogs. We prepare a hot dog stand in the trailer just like the one you see in downtown Reykjavík but our hot dogs are just better ;) and don't worry we also have vegan hot dogs.

The company you get on a riding tour is always fun. W
ether it is Icelanders or not the people always seem to enjoy themselves while their riding and having good company is key for a good riding tour. The camera might pop up a few times on the way and you always got to remember to smile :) Even though i been on many riding tours i never forget the people iv'e been riding with and i think the same goes for them.

If your thinking about what to do in 2024 i really recommend taking a riding tour with us, its an unforgettable experience and you will feel like a true Icelandic viking riding along good trails with a handhorse.
