Inspired by nature

On a small farm in South Iceland lives Vilborg Ástraðsdóttir with her family and lots of farm animals. From early childhood on she has been fascinated by the forms and colors of nature. Born on a farm and raised with the task of taking good care of animals such as herding the sheep during the autumn round up she felt inspired by the mountains, glacial rivers, mossy hills and wide open landscape.
As an artist it was her heartfelt desire to incorporate nature into her works. In her little studio called Híalín at the farm she silk prints natural motives onto t-shirts, dresses and leggings. Typical motives are horses at play, sheep heads and the mountain height lines of her favorite highland areas.
For a dear friend she did a very special dress: One of her friend´s favored sheep was carrying a GPS device during the grazing time up in the highlands for a scientific project to monitor the sheep and their grazing behavior during summer time. Once the sheep had returned from the mountains the GPS data was downloaded and the wandering of the sheep could be traced. This route Vilborg incorporated into the dress pattern – making it 100% unique! But it is not only silk printing she excels in. She has written a book with knitting patterns and does beautiful glass cuttings as well.
For Exploring Iceland she has been silk printing beautiful hats that can be worn underneath the riding helmet and as a light summer or autumn hat on a horse riding trip in Iceland.

Look forward to your own special hat when booking a luxury horseback riding tour with us!
