There are of course the environmental benefits such as restoration of natural habitats, reforestation, and biodiversity conservation projects with the aim of establishing healthier ecosystems. Reducing the carbon footprint and waste reduction are important factors as well. But there is more! Regenerative tourism also aims at community and social benefits by prioritizing local small businesses, artisan producers and buying from local farmers and smallholders. The aim of regenerative tourism is to ensure that the economic benefits of tourism are distributed equitably. What´s in it for you, the traveller? We want our guests to make meaningful connections by offering experiences that involve active participation in conservation and community projects. Exploring Iceland aims to provide several learning experiences about local ecosystems, Icelandic culture and way of life and the fascinating history of this small island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. By working together with local communities and tourism providers, our guests benefit from cleaner and stable natural environments. This approach will also allow future generations to come to enjoy the amazing and varied Icelandic nature. In short, regenerative tourism represents a holistic approach to tourism that seeks to ensure that travel experiences contribute to the rejuvenation and thriving of destinations rather than merely sustaining their current state.
Exploring Iceland contributes to local animal welfare charities, offers young Icelanders an opportunity to get to know the Icelandic Horse, organizes regular clean up and tree planting projects by the Exploring Iceland staff. We are proud to reduce our carbon footprint by working mainly from home office, encouraging the use of electrical cars in our tours, keeping a strict waste management and supporting our staff in setting up innovative projects such as herb gardens, composting sites and tree nurseries. If you want to learn more – please see our environmental, fair trade and animal welfare policies! Let´s do this together!
