Private Group Tours
Iceland Winter

Capturing the Northern Lights
short tour with an Aurora Borealis expert

October - March

Dates

Upon request for private groups
of all sizes
This itinerary is a suggestion for private groups who are happy to spend a few nights in the cozy hotel accommodation in the countryside to have more flexibility and time for sightseeing. Your hotel is the 4 Star Húsafell Hótel with geothermal swimming pool and excellent restaurant situated in the Húsafell Nature Reserve. This itinerary gives you the advantage of travelling further from Reykjavík and having thus more time on each location.

During the Northern Lights season (September/October to March/April) a countryside location is always preferrably since it will give you better darkness to see the lights and Húsafell Hotel has been one of Iceland´s best places to see them.

Please note that this itinerary is just an example and days can be exchanged, the program can be shortened or altered to your wishes!

Type:   Multi - day bus tour with private guide

Day by day itinerary - Suggestion

Day 1:  Arrival – Hraunfossar Waterfalls – Húsafell Nature Reserve
Meet and Greet with your private designated guide in the arrival hall at Keflavík Airport. We drive straight to West Iceland and spend some time at the magnificent Hraunfossar Waterfalls, a series of small waterfalls streaming out from the Lavafield Hallmundarhraun. They are very unusual and offer a breathtaking sight! We check in at the hotel and you can visit the geothermal swiming pool which is only a few steps away for the hotel door! Dinner and evening spend individually. The Hotel provides excellent meals with locally sourced ingredients.
Accommodation: Hotel Húsafell****

Day 2: Lava Cave Viðgelmir – Goat Farm Háafell – Horse Center Sturlu – Reykir – Giljaböð Canyon baths
Today we leave after breakfast for an extended sightseeing tour in the area. We start with a guided tour into one of Iceland´s largest lava caves before meeting the funny and absolutely adorable goats at Háafell Farm. We also meet the Icelandic Horse and learn interesting facts about this fascinating horse breed which is inspite of its small size very strong and gentle and has some amazing gaits you will not find in other horse breeds. We finish this exciting day at the Giljaböð Canyon baths, unique and remote geothermal bathing pools  right up in the mountains (requires an easy walk through beautiful landscape).
Accommodation: Hotel Húsafell****

Day 3:  Snæfellsnes Peninsula – Reykjavík
After check-out enjoy a whole day in the Snæfellsnes Peninsula with its amazing black and golden beaches, seal colonies and cliffs. We drive around Snæfellsnes Glacier with its impressive snow covered peak and if the weather is favorable walk along the coast or the pebble covered black lava beach Djúpalónssandur. Hear stories of sunken ships and extreme conditions in historical times when the men set out to work the sea! In the evening back to Reykjavík and check into your comfortable hotel. Discover what the vibrant nordic capital has to offer when it comes to first class restaurants.
Accommodation: Sand Hotel **** or Hilton Canopy**** in downtown Reykjavík

Day 4:  Private transfer to airport and departure
Enjoy a private transfer to Keflavík International Airport.
Please contact us for an individual offer for your family or group!

This program can be run all through the year but the Northern Lights are only active between late September to Mid April. The best time is between November – March. Please note that the Northern Lights are a natural phenomena and sightings cannot be guaranteed.

If you would lengthen your stay and discover the South of Iceland have a look at our Winter South program and stay in either cozy Mongolian Yurts or in the 4 Star Hotel Geysir nearby!
