Day 1: Þingvellir National Park - Friðheimar Greenhouse Restaurant – Horse Riding
Pick up at 9 am at your hotel in Reykjavík. Please be ready in your riding clothes at pick up. We drive to Þingvellir National Park which is on the Unesco Heritage Site our guide will tell us all about. We also go for a short walk "in between the continents" before enjoying a lovely lunch at renowned Friðheimar Greenhouse Restaurant before visiting their stables where they will inform us about the Icelandic horse breed and display all the gaits. From there is a short transfer to a local horse farm for your first private ride. After an introduction into the safety issues, tack and gaits of the Icelandic horse we set off for a lovely gentle ride over good tölting tracks through the lush countryside. Back on four wheels and short drive to our hotel where we stay for next 3 nights.
Riding: Approx 2-2,5 hours.
Day 2: Geysir hot spring – Riding to Gullfoss Waterfall – Soak in the Secret lagoon
After a heartful breakfast we take a short drive to the hot spring area of Geysir, where we should not miss a spouting from Strokkur (the churn) which spouts every 5-7 minutes! After spending some time in the area our next stop will be at a horse farm where we go for a private riding tour to the Golden Waterfall. Riding to Gullfoss waterfall gives ultimate satisfaction if you're looking for nothing but the best panoramas. First, this ride goes along the majestic canyon of Hvítá river, then continues to the waterfall itself. At Gullfoss, the horses have a little break while we admire the waterfall and enjoy lunch at the Gullfoss Café. When back at the farm there is a short drive to one of the oldest geothermal pool in Iceland or the Secret Lagoon where we ease up our muscles after the ride before driving back to hotel.
Riding: Approx 3 hours.
Day 3: Morning beach ride* (depending on tide times) – Southshore sightseeing
After a heartful breakfast we drive to a black beach to meet our horses. This morning we enjoy the volcanic beach, the river banks and islands of the Ölfusá delta and great views! We follow the scenic beach along the surf of the North Atlantic for a few kilometers, riding on soft black lava sand until we reach the beautiful area where the mighty glacial river Ölfusá meets the sea in a large delta. We then continue through shallow water at the edge of the river delta and ride on grassy river banks, along wetlands and meadows towards the farmland in the Ölfus area. On our way we have plenty of opportunity to try the smooth gait of the Icelandic horse “tölt” on nice trails in beautiful scenery which seems to be far from civilization, and enjoy spectacular views of mountains and the volcanos Hekla and Eyjafjallajökull, weather permitting. We also have good chances to see sea- and wetland birds of various kinds living in the Flói Bird Reserve between the ocean shore and the river. Enroute we enjoy sandwiches etc for lunch and coffee and cake after the ride.
Then back on 4 wheels for a sightseeing tour of South Iceland including Seljalandsfoss waterfall where you can walk behind and mighty Skógafoss waterfall.
Riding: Approx 3-4 hours.
Day 4: Countryside riding with River crossing – Sky Lagoon
After breakfast and check out we ride into Haukadalur forest and many other beautiful rivers and fields, we offer you to experience a truly nature-oriented ride. Be prepared to cross some rivers and ride deeply into Icelandic nature! This is a 3 hours ride so after the ride we enjoy our last lunch together at the Farmer´s bistro to taste their delicious mushroom soup and more. From there we drive the southshore route to the Sky Lagoon in Reykjavi where we end the tour by soaking into the Blue Water, rub our face with the silica mask and feel 10 years younger.
