Today´s ride will take us even more up into the moutains when we pass Haukadalsskarð on our way to the beautiful Dalir region of West Iceland. This is the home of numerous waterfalls, deep valleys and incredible mountain views. It is also the home of some of the most famous Icelandic Sagas like the Sagas of Eric the Red and the Saga of the people of the Salmon River Valley People. Imagine how the old vikings become alive in this authentic locaction! At Giljaland we leave the horses for tonight and drive to the old farmhouse Svarfhóll, which will be our home for the next three nights.Of course a hot tub will wait for us there as well! Day 5: Giljaland – Haukadalur – Vatni After breakfast we join the horses again and ride through the beautifull Haukadalur valley – the valley of hawks- and along the picturesque lake Haukadalsvatn. This is the area where Eric The Red lived before he was sentenced to exile in 982. He later founded a nordic settlement in Greenland and his son Leifur set out in around the year 1000 to discover America which he called Vinland. Long before Christopher Columbus even set foot on the North American continent. Lovely countryside settings with green meadows, small farms and beautiful waterfalls await us while we drive our herd through the valley. At Vatni, we will leave our horses tonight for a well deserved rest. Back to Svarfhóll for the night. 6. Day: Álfheimur – Sea shore ride – Dunkur Today we will ride during low tide at the seashore of Hvammsfjörður Fjord. Breath some sea air and look out for sea eagles and other sea birds while we tölt along the remote coastline with incredible views over the deep fjord and its skerries in the deep blue water of the secluded fjord where only few people live. Hear the tales of Auður, the Deep minded, a heroic Viking women who lived in Caithness and the Hebrides in Scotland before claiming land at Hvammur on the north shore of Hvammsfjörður. We leave the horses and Dunkur and drive back to Svarfhóll. 7. Day: Along the beach to Svarfhóll Today we take our horses all the way to Svarfhóll farm, which has been our home for the last nights.
