Löngufjörur Beach & Mountain Ride

Dates 2023
 July 12-19
July  20-27 (Reverse itinerary)
Eight fascinating riding days along the famous beaches of Snæfellsnes Peninsula and across the mountains with glacier view!
Tölt along the black and golden sands of Snæfellsnes - West Iceland

Small groups with max. 12 guests
This wonderful tour with 7 exciting riding days along the beach and along the mountains takes you to some of the most exhilarating routes and views at the Snæfellsnes Peninsula of West Iceland. Enjoy tölting behind the herd of loose running horses across the wide golden and black sands of the famous Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Mighty glacier Snæfellsnesjökull greets you as you will be riding through breathtaking ever changing landscape: from sandy beaches to rough lava, up high mountain trails and across rivers and streams.
This is a small group tour with only 12 guests  which gives the tour a wonderful personal feeling.
Our partners are both experienced mountaineers and horse breeders and have received tremendous praise from our guests for their wonderful soft tölting horses. Herdís, our guide speaks fluent English and German and has a deep knowledge of the rich literature and history of the area. All of the horses you are going to ride come from Eggert´s own breeding and he and Herdís train them themselves, meaning that they know each and everyone from birth. Our hosts are  happy to cater for any special diet request such as vegetarian and vegan and food allergies. Please inform us about your wishes when booking. Don´t miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime beach riding adventure!

Day by day itinerary

Day 1:  Arrival in Iceland – Meeting with other guests at Guesthouse in Keflavík.
Individual arrival in Iceland. Please take a taxi to Konvin Hotel in Keflavík where you will meet the group. The evening is spend individually, you can go for a stroll, check out the restaurant right next door and meet & and chat with your new friends and fellow riders! Good to know: The night and breakfast tomorrow morning is included but not the taxi.

Day 2: Driving to West Iceland and first ride
Meet up with your guides in the morning for breakfast and take an approx. 3.5 hours drive to West Iceland to your first accommodation at an old farmhouse called Svarfhóll - and of course it comes with a geothermal hot tub! After lunch and check-in it is time to meet the horses and go for a first ride to practice the soft and special tölt! (Riding time approx. 3-4 hours in the saddle)

Day 3 : Skógarströnd Beach Ride
We saddle up and ride in western direction behind our herd of loose running spare horses towards the north coast of Snæfellsnes and end the day with a beach ride on black sand until we reach the farm Dunkur where we leave the horses for the night! Beautiful views over Fjord Hvammsfjörður, an area with loads of history as well! Overnight at Svarfhóll farmhouse again.

Day 4: Towards the mountains - crossing Snæfellsnes
Today we leave the beach area and head south across the mountains until we come to Lake Hlíðarvatn where we leave the horses at Hallkelsstaðahlíð  but we take the car to Snorrastadir Holiday Farm on the south coast of Snæfellsnes which will be our home for the next 4 nights.

Day 5: Towards Löngufjörur Beach
Todays ride continues across the mountains until we reach Kolviðarnes farm situated right by the famous golden Löngufjörur beach.

Day 6: Tölting towards Snæfellsnesjökull
We continue on the beach and with a little luck we might see all the way to majestic and famous Snæfellsnesjökull glacier towering over us! Curious seals call this area their home and we might see those cute and funny animals along the way!

Day 7: More tölt on the beach!
Today we start heading back towards the east as we turn the herd around and go along Löngufjörur beach in direction Skógarnes again.

Day 8: Riding towards Kolbeinsstaðir - Reykjavík
This is sadly our last riding day and we will take our wonderful horses along the beach towards Kolbeinsstaðir near the beautiful spatter cone crater of Eldborg where we have to say good bye to our horses.  In the afternoon we will drive back to Reykjavík. Late arrival in Reykjavík at approx. 22:00/10 PM. Drop off at your accommodation in Reykjavík or Keflavík. We are more than happy to arrange your Reykjavík accommodation for you!

Please note: The second departure in July is with a reverse itinerary. So you start riding at Kolbeinsstaðir and end at Svarfhóll.
