Find out how Icelanders celebrated Christmas and how changes were brought about in the daily life in the old turf house farms throughout the centuries. With a little luck we will experience the amazing Northern Lights dancing in the sky - far away from light pollution and the beautiful setting of the old turf houses in the background! Don´t forget to bring your camera! We pick you up at your Hotel or Guesthouse and drive out to „“Íslenski bærinn” or Turf House, which is located at Austur-Meðalholt of Flói parish in the south of Iceland. It is an example of the houses built of natural material, a subtle and almost seamless extension of nature itself. The few remaining traditional farmhouses rank with the handful of buildings in Iceland that can be deemed of global value. We meet the family and descendants of the farmers who lived at the old turfhouse. They will show us around and tell us about their memories of childhood in a turfhouse. Learn about the "baðstofukvöld" when all the members sat together to read and work the wool. |
