Day by day itinerary

Day 1: Friðheimar – Horse Riding – Secret Lagoon

​

Departure from Reykjavík at 10:00.

 

We begin our journey with a scenic drive through South Iceland to Friðheimar Greenhouse, one of the region’s most unique food and farm experiences. At Friðheimar, tomatoes are grown year-round using geothermal energy, creating a warm and fragrant greenhouse atmosphere even during Iceland’s colder months. We enjoy a stable visit to learn about the Icelandic horse and their gaits, and their renowned tomato soup lunch, served among the tomato plants in this special setting.

 

From there, it is a short drive to our horse farm, where we meet the local farmer and are introduced to the Icelandic horses. Known for their friendly character, strength, and special gait, the tölt, Icelandic horses are a true part of the country’s culture and history. We start with a short introductory ride in the indoor riding hall before heading out for a two-hour ride through the countryside. This first ride gives everyone time to get comfortable with their horse and enjoy the peaceful rural surroundings.

 

On the way to our hotel, we enjoy a relaxing welcome soak at the Secret Lagoon. This historic geothermal pool is one of the oldest swimming pools in Iceland and is surrounded by steaming hot springs and natural geothermal activity. The warm water is the perfect way to relax after the first day of travel and riding. Accommodation for the next three nights is at Hotel Geysir.

 

By staying in at hotel Geysir you can enjoy Geysir hot spring area late evening or early morning when very few guests are there: Geysir geothermal area, a landscape of bubbling hot springs, steaming vents, colourful mineral deposits, and erupting geysers. Here you see Strokkur, the active geyser that erupts regularly, sending boiling water high into the air and giving visitors a memorable glimpse of Iceland’s volcanic energy.

 

Day 2: Gullfoss Waterfall – Horse Riding – Hrunalaug

 

After breakfast, we visit two of Iceland’s most famous natural highlights on the Golden Circle route. Our first stop is Gullfoss, the “Golden Waterfall”, where glacial water from the Hvítá river plunges in two dramatic steps into a rugged canyon. It is one of Iceland’s most powerful and beloved waterfalls, impressive in every season.

 

After sightseeing, we return to the farm for a three-hour countryside ride. Today’s route takes us through open landscapes and quiet rural trails, with beautiful views of the surrounding area. We ride to a nearby restaurant, where both riders and horses enjoy a well-earned lunch break.

 

After the ride, we soak in Hrunalaug, a small and charming geothermal pool surrounded by peaceful countryside. Its intimate setting makes it a lovely contrast to the larger bathing areas and a wonderful place to unwind after a day outdoors.

 

Day 3: Horse Riding – Laugarás Lagoon

After breakfast, we drive back to the farm for another beautiful countryside ride. Each day brings a new route, allowing us to experience different views, terrain, and moods of the South Iceland landscape. Today is all about slowing down and enjoying the rhythm of the Icelandic horse and the calm of the countryside. Depending on the route and conditions, we may ride along farmland, open fields, riverbanks, or quiet tracks with wide views over the surrounding area.

 

After the ride, we relax at Laugarás Lagoon, a beautiful geothermal bathing destination inspired by Icelandic nature and bathing traditions. Here, warm pools, steam, and calm surroundings create a peaceful atmosphere after the day’s ride. In the evening, guests can enjoy dinner at the lagoon’s excellent restaurant, making this a lovely combination of riding, bathing, and local dining. Dinner is not included.

 

Day 4: Horse Riding – Fontana Geothermal Baths – Þingvellir National Park – Reykjavík

After breakfast and check-out, we return to the farm for our final ride together. This last ride gives us time to enjoy the horses once more and take in the quiet beauty of the countryside before saying goodbye to the horses and farmers.

 

We then continue to Fontana Geothermal Baths, located by Lake Laugarvatn. Fontana is known for its warm geothermal pools, natural steam baths, and the possibility of a refreshing dip in the lake. The steam baths are built over natural hot springs, connecting guests directly with Iceland’s geothermal power in a simple and traditional way. There will be free time for lunch.

 

After the bath, we drive via Þingvellir National Park, one of Iceland’s most important historic and natural sites. Þingvellir is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the original meeting place of Alþingi, Iceland’s historic parliament, founded in 930 AD. It is also a remarkable geological area, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates slowly drift apart, creating dramatic rifts, cliffs, and fissures in the landscape.

 

From Þingvellir, we return to Reykjavík, where the tour ends.
