A riding tour to the remote and stunning Western Fjords! We ride on yellow beaches, over mountain passes and into secret valleys. We spend the first night in Svalvogar, a true paradise where you can only hear the sound of he birds and the wild life. We simply can´t resist the tranquility and put up our tents for overnight. Be prepared - you might never want leave this place! We spend all other nights at the boarding school / summer hotel Núpur which is renowned for their excellent food. This 7 days trail ride is suited for intermediate / advanced riders. We ride two horses each day, possibly only one or maybe three. As the tour commences, we encourage the rider to raise her/his
challenge to a new level, asking for new horses until a match is found. This could result in riding different horses each day or having the same horse for multiple days, even the whole tour if necessary. This will be possible as we will be driving a number of horses with us.

Accommodation: 6 nights in 2-4 bed rooms in made up beds with shared facilities. 1 night in a tent. Accommodation in Reykjavik not included but can be arranged.
Meals: Full pension starting with lunch on the first day and ending with breakfast on the last day.

Day by day itinerary
Day 1: Flight to Ísafjörður - Ride to Svalvogar
Participants make their way to Domestic Flights in Reykjavík Airport, for the morning flight to Ísafjörður. Your plane-ticket will be waiting for you at the check-in desk, just state your name and show your passport. Departure 9:00, check-in at 8:30. I will meet you at Ísafjörður Airport and take you to Þingeyri Riding Hall to meet the horses. You will get refreshments and a sandwich and water bottle for the lunchpack. We ride from the riding hall in Þingeyri passing an airfield and a golf course on our way to Haukadalur, where outlaw hero Gísli Súrsson lived. After a resting pause we ride on to Sveinseyri farm, where we
leave civilization behind and ascend up the slopes of Mt. Ófæra, by the fjord. We make another stop at beautiful valley Keldudalur, before riding on looking out to the open ocean. We will ride Kjaransgata, a special track in the cliffs, before calling it a day at Svalvogar, where we spend the night in tents. No showers, primitive toilets.
Day 2: Deserted valleys
From farm Svalvogar, and it’s beautiful landscape and surroundings, we take the paths passing through a couple
of valleys to Lokinhamrar farm under the mighty Mt. Skeggi, where we will have a rest. On we go admiring the view over
the fjord, to the many valleys called Ketildalir. We ride down to the sea, riding under the Skútabjörg cliffs, stopping by
the lonely Stapi. Then we ride up Fossdalur valley up to a mountain pass in the shoulders of Mt. Kaldbakur, the highest
mountain of the Westfjords, opening into a beautiful view over Kirkjubólsdalur valley, and then to Sandar. Bus to guesthouse
Day 3: The alps of Iceland
Heading north we ride from Sandar up Brekkuháls, descending down to Dýrafjörður, passing Hvammur Ketilseyri, and Kjaransstaðir farms on our way to the head of the fjord, where a pair of eagles has been seen on occasion. Sometimes a herd of wild horses grazes peacefully in the meadows, but sprints away when disturbed by the sounds and sight of our flock. This is a really peaceful area, with waterfalls and mighty mountains all around. Further we ride and the horses stop at Lambadalur farm for the night. Bus to swimming-pool at Þingeyri, and then to Hótel Núpur.
Day 4: Yellow beaches
From Lambadalur we ride out the fjord towards the ocean. Depending on the tides we will ride the beach at
Mýrar farm, around Mt. Mýrafell to Hótel Núpur, where we have a beautiful view over to Haukadalur and out to the
Atlantic ocean. We take the a ride into picturesque Núpsdalur, enjoying the stillness of the beautiful valley.
Day 5: Mountain passes and bird cliffs
From Hotel Núpur we are off to Gerðhamrar farm, where we see strange rock formations, as well as the windhouse for drying fish. Through the valley we ride and climb up and over Mt. Sandsheiði (600 m.o.s) descending down to the friendly, blooming Ingjaldssandur valley. Ascending again up to Nesdalur valley, stopping at the deserted farm, where we rest our horses in the tranquillity of a busy birdcliff. Back we ride again and we call it a day at farm Hraun in Injaldssandur
6-7 hours. Bus to Hótel Núpur.
Day 6: Up and down mountains
Up Mt. Sandsheiði again, turning left, climbing Mt. Klúka, getting the glorious view over Flateyri village and
Valþjófsdalur valley. After a rest we lead our horses down through the stony scree. We will sense the calmness and solid
temperament of our horses as the choose their steps downhill. We then mount and ride down the heathland to farm
Kirkjuból. Where we take a peek into the small countryside farmer church. We ride the slopes of Ófæra mountain and
head to farm Þórustaðir, where the horses stay overnight. Bus to Hótel Núpur. 5-6 hours.
Day 7: Yellow beaches and a grassy valley
When the tides are in our favor we ride the white beach of Holtsoddi, on our way to village Flateyri. We have yet
one mountain to climb, Mt. Klofningur and descend into the
grassy valley of Sunndalur to the farm Bær in Súgandafjörður,
where the ride comes to an end. 5-6 hours. Swimming-pool in
Suðureyri town. Bus to Hótel Núpur to the farewell dinner.
Day 8: Time to say good bye
Departure day: After breakfast we pack the luggage into the
trailer, leaving for Ísafjörður Airport, where we say our farewells. Check-in 8:00 Departure 8:30. Estimated time in REK 9:10
