This team is a group of friends who rode across Iceland during summer 2014 from the Langanes peninsula in the remote North East to Reykjanes in the South West in 19 days, covering thereby a distance of 715 km. All of them are very experienced riders and have organized numerous riding tours in Iceland.
Ari is the grand old man who celebrated his 60th birthday in 2014 during this particular „Across Iceland“ tour. In fact, he has celebrated most of his „big“ birthdays somewhere up in the mountains with some close friends and his beloved horses! He started riding as a young man, accompanying his dad on many great trails – a horseman through and through! He is the „boss“ - he makes sure everything is done in the right order and on time. With him there are no delays! But his main emphasis is on the welfare of the horses. He makes sure all horses are healthy, in good shape, well shod with proper horse shoes and fit to go. And if something breaks down - he is the guy to fix things, virtually everything! Funny enough he has a life besides the horses – in his normal life he is managing a big contractor company.
Jörundur (usually called Jöri) grew up on a farm in the historic Dalir county and has been riding since he was a small child. Today he is a succesful horse trainer, a keen competition rider, a competition judge and a breeder. It doesn´t come as a surprise that all his horses are on competition level. But first and foremost he is our funny, sweet and lively guy who makes sure that everyone is having fun on the tour! Jöri is a great singer and storyteller - so he is the man who will keep you busy laughing and singing in the evenings! When he is not in the saddle he runs his own car garage company.
Steinunn is the brain and the planner behind every trip! She bought her first horse at the age of 16 and has been smitten by the „horse bug“ ever since. By now she owns 14 horses and some of her younger horses come from her own breeding lines. She favors horses with real character and trains them so that everyone can ride them. Steinunn is our early riser in the mornings but never too tired for some fun in the evening! She is also a keen horse photographer and plays the accordion. Steinunn is often accompanied by her old daughter Lóa who has been riding since the age of 5. This year Lóa has high hopes on competing on Landsmót again!
Gústi grew up on a farm in the Dalir county and is – just like Jöri, a great storyteller. He knows many stories and jokes and loves to share them! He works full time as a guide all year around and in 2015 he came second (out of 640 participants) at the „Tourleader of the year“ Award of a big UK tour company. So you are in for a great time with him!
Hugrún (Jöri´s mother) sometimes comes along on highland tours with the team and makes sure that nobody is loosing weight while on our tours! She makes delicious food, writes poetry and is everyone´s „big mama“. She used to ride a lot in her younger days but now prefers to be a part of the non-riding team.
