Day by day itinerary

Day 1:
08:00 Departure from Reykjavík, pick up at guesthouse or hotel in Reykjavík captial area.
By bus we drive through enormous lava field and green countrysite towards the small and beautiful communities in the Uppsveitar area. On a local farm we are met by the lovely goats, horses and other farm animals. The cute and funny goats will certainly bring a smile on everybody´s face while the farmers tell us about their daily life. . After the walk/ride a light lunch is provided (included). At the Visitor Center Þjórsárstofa we are invited to watch a short film about the mighty Þjórsá river, from his spring in the Icelandic Highland to the shore. Next stop will be Þjórsárdalur valley with its beautiful waterfall Hjálparfoss, the Viking farm reconstruction Þjóðveldisbær and the excavation of the old viking farm Stöng that was buried under ashes in a Mt. Hekla eruption in 1104. We take a little stroll through the beautiful Gjáin valley with its numerous waterfalls and splendid basalt columns. A local silkprint artist, who gets her inspiration straight from the Icelandic nature greets us in her studio and gives us a fascinating insight into textile printing. After this exciting day everybody will enjoy a relaxing bath at the Secret Lagoon, a natural bathing spring heated with geothermal water. Enjoy a three course dinner at the hotel with local products from the surrounding farms and greenhouses. After dinner the members of the local ICE SAR (Icelandic Search and Rescue) unit collect us from the hotel and take us to their station for an exciting introduction into their voluntary work.

Day 2:
After a sumptous breakfast we visit Fellskot, a horse breeding farm that has been within the same family for centuries where Icelandic Horses are bred and trained. The owners give us an interesting introduction into the training of the Icelandic Horse and its special gaits. We continue to Friðheimar Farm, where we get the unique opportunity to visit a greenhouse, where tomatoes are grown with the help of geothermal water. The famous golden waterfall Gullfoss and and the Geysir hot spring area  are next on the programm with plenty of time to explore both natural wonders. Various individual lunch options available (lunch is not included in tourprice).  Another highlight awaits us when we visit Þingvellir Nationalpark, where the Icelandic Parliament was founded in 930 AD – right on the midatlantic ridge, where two continental plates are drifting apart. Here we go for an easy walk, visiting the historic places connected with Icelandic history. Our last stop takes us to Gljúfrasteinn, the home of famous Icelandic writer and Nobel price winner Halldór Laxness.
Arrival in Reykjavík in the late afternoon.
