July 28 - 30
Duration: 3 days – 2 nights
Meditation opens unexplored realms of experience and personal insight, leading to fresh and vivid opportunities for renewal, well-being, and joy. When we practice in nature, exploring landscapes becomes a rich and wonder-filled experience, merging outer and inner discoveries. We learn more about our connection to the world, and cultivate space for personal growth and revitalized health.
Join us for three days of discovery and deep self-reflection on this meditation retreat. We'll offer yoga and mindful movement in the mornings, along with meditation instructions and practice. In the afternoons, we'll relax into the natural beauty of the landscape, share mindful nature walks, and enjoy the small traditional village of Hveragerði. Evenings will include more meditation and mindful movement.
For locals, Devon and Craig Hase will offer mindfulness training throughout the three days. For out of town guests, opportunities for more travel and exploration of the area are countless and we encourage retreatants to book before and after retreat adventures through Exploring Iceland.

Mindfulness teachers Devon and Craig Hase have studied with some of the great meditation masters of our time. They have undergone long training periods in monasteries and retreat centers in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Currently, they teach mindfulness at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and the Center for Healthy Minds, both in Madison, Wisconsin, and lead workshops and retreats for helping professionals and others in the United States and Europe. Joseph Goldstein, the co-founder of Insight Meditation Society, and author of acclaimed works on mindfulness, says of them, "Devon and Craig are deeply
experienced practitioners, with a strong dedication to their own meditation journey. They have immersed themselves for many years in long intensive practice, and I highly recommend their mindfulness teaching."

Our local guide, Kristín Thorleifsdóttir, is a native Icelander. She is an assistant professor of Landscape Architecture and Design Studies at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Kristín will lead mindful sensory walks in the surrounding area.
Hveragerði village, with a population of about 2300 and located only 45 km from Reykjavik, is truly a green community, abounding in trees. A green revolution is taking place as areas of woodland in and around Hveragerði expand, with the locals working together in order to further develop their blossoming town. Certainly the most precious gem of the town is its geothermal area. Besides the hot springs, Hveragerði has much to offer. Trout and salmon fishing in the Varmá river, swimming in one of the oldest swimming pools in Iceland, and eating vegetables grown in local geothermal green houses. The area in and around the small town abounds in excellent walking routes.
