If you travel individually and would like to get to know the locals we recommend to join our local hosts for a a wonderful authentic cooking workshop at their farm located right in the Golden Circle area! Ása and Hjalti live on a horse and sheep farm where they welcome guests into their cozy guesthouse with Geysir view and offer an amazing insight into Icelandic Farmlife and the culinary history of Iceland in their charming kitchen with stable view!
Ása loves to cook and she is a fountain of knowledge when it comes to the traditional way of cooking and unique food preservation such as curing and pickling meat, fish and vegetables! To cook with her is a fun lesson not only in Icelandic cooking but also in Icelandic history and culture. Ása: “Cooking is my passion! I just love to cook, to find new recipes, make up my own food creations. Iceland has such wonderful natural food – it is a paradise for every “foodie”. For the workshops I go and meet the local farmers, I hand-pick my tomatoes myself in the greenhouse, I trade my lamb meat for organic grown vegetables with my neighbors in the community. I want to know what I and my guests have on the plate”.
The farm is located right between the Geyser and Gullfoss Waterfall so an evening cooking workshop with Ása can easily be incorporated into your self drive program. If you like, you can even stay the night at their lovely farm guesthouse and/or book a riding tour right from their farm on their sweet natured Icelandic Horses.
