On this day tour from Reykjavik we take you to explore around, on and within, the giant, 953sq/km glacier, with a bonus visits en-route to the glacier: Hraunfossar, a spectacular waterfall, Kaldidalur, a highland track and Tingvellir, the beautiful national park with amazing scenery, to give you a truly memorable day. Lunch stop at Husafell ( where you will have the opportunity to buy lunch).

The tour gives you the chance to enjoy many of the most amazing things Iceland has to offer – a great mixture of nature, history and adventure. The whole program takes about 5–6 hours.
You will be picked up at your hotel and the drive takes about 30 min. Please note from the parking place there is a 40-50 min hike to get to the crater before we descend 120 meters/400 feet to the bottom of the crater in an open cable lift. Operation dates: From 15 May – 15 October Tour departures: Several departures every day. The first tour at 8:00 and the last tour in the afternoon. Duration: 5–6 hours (about 35-40 minutes inside the volcano). Fitness level needed: Moderate (the difficulty is 2 out of a possible 5). No knowledge of hiking or climbing is required. It’s not an uphill walk, but the surface is partly uneven. This is NOT a tour for those in no or limited physical shape. Distance walked: Approximately 3 km (2 miles) each way. The walk usually takes around 45–50 minutes (depending on the condition of people in the group). A guide will be with you at all times during the walk. Minimum age limit: 12 years (we can and have made exceptions on the age. Contact us if you want to convince us that your kid is up for adventure). Price: ISK 42.000. |

Caves are often dark, tight and uninviting places; however due to the state of the art feature lighting system this is not the case on this tour . The stunning beauty of Víðgelmir lava cave lies in the amazing colours and rock formations - you will be amazed!

This tour allows you to explore the Raufarhólshellir cave tunnel in an easy and enjoyable manner. A footbridge has been built and impressive lighting in this part of the tunnel highlights the changing colors and clearly shows the powerful volcanic activity that formed the tunnel.
The tour is on the hour every hour and each tour takes approximately 55 - 60 minutes. Helmets and lights provided. Warm clothes and sturdy shoes are recommended and bear in mind that there is usually some water dripping from the ceiling so wearing a water resistant or water proof jacket/clothes is recommended. lofthellir ice cave - from akureyri

Explore the mystical world of darkness and ice in the Lofthellir cave that boasts the greatest natural ice sculptures currently known in an Icelandic lava cave. Lofthellir is only a 45 minute drive on a rugged track and a short walk from Lake Mývatn.
We drive straight to Lake Mývatn and from there along a rugged track to the unique volcano Hverfell, through the crater row of Lúdentarborgir to the roots of Mt. Hvannfell. After a 20 minute walk across a lava field which is adorned by endless ropey lava, we reach the Lofthellir Lava Cave. At least one hour is spent inside the cave, observing this unbelievable natural phenomenon. We make a short stop in the village of Reykjahlíð by Lake Mývatn before returning to Akureyri. |
