Small Group Tour
By bus we drive through enormous lava field and green countryside towards the small and beautiful communities in the Uppsveitar area. On a local farm we are met by the lovely goats, horses and other farm animals. The cute and funny goats will certainly bring a smile on everybody´s face while the farmers tell us about their daily life. You have the choice of either going for a guided walk or an optional ride on the amazing Icelandic Horse through the lovely countryside.
After the walk/ride a light lunch is provided (included).
At theVisitor Center Þjórsárstofa we are invited to watch a short film about the mighty Þjórsá river, from his spring in the Icelandic Highland to the shore. We continue to Skaftholt farm, a farm where organic vegetables are grown with the help of geothermal water and wonderful cheese is produced from the farm´s organic milking cows. This place is furthermore home to a group of people with special needs who live and work on the farm. Next stop will be Þjórsárdalur valley with its beautiful waterfall Hjálparfoss, the Viking farm reconstruction Þjóðveldisbær and the excavation of the old viking farm Stöng that was buried under ashes in a Mt. Hekla eruption in 1104. We take a little stroll through the beautiful Gjáin valley with its numerous waterfalls and splendid basalt columns.
A local silk print artist, who gets her inspiration straight from the Icelandic nature greets us in her studio and gives us a fascinating insight into textile printing. Return to Reykjavík with arrival in the evening.
